Cable & Connector Design-to-Manufacturing Specialists

Engineering-led from the first requirement. 30+ years specializing in energy-based medical devices.

Our Foundation

Why We Chose to Specialize

Global Interconnect, Inc. (Gii) was founded in 1995 in Pocasset, Massachusetts by industry veterans who saw a gap the market wasn't filling: medical device OEMs needed a manufacturing partner that was a genuine expert in cables and connectors — not a generalist who happened to build them. That singular focus has guided every decision we've made since day one.

While broad-based contract manufacturers spread their capabilities wide, Gii made a deliberate choice to go deep — building its engineering culture and supply chain with cables and connectors at the center. That specialization, combined with US-based engineering and rapid prototyping and a manufacturing footprint across the Americas and Asia — including a nearshore facility in Heredia, Costa Rica — is what allows us to find solutions that other manufacturers simply cannot offer. Today, our global production network, ISO 8 clean room capacity, and FDA registration and ISO 13485 certification support a comprehensive range of medical device manufacturing programs — with cable and connector programs as the cornerstone of everything we do.

Our Journey

Three Decades of Cable & Connector Specialization

From a single-minded startup in 1995 to a three-continent medical manufacturing partner. Move your cursor across the timeline to travel through the years — hover any milestone to reveal its story.

1995

A Specialist Is Born

After a career spanning commercial lending, finance, sales, and operations in the interconnect industry, Babson College graduate Stephen Bates makes a deliberate bet: rather than be a generalist contract manufacturer, Gii would go deep on the one thing OEMs struggled to source well — custom cables and connectors. That focused identity has guided every decision since.

1995
1999

Building Engineering Depth

Gii's longest-serving team member, Bob would go on to become Chief Technology Officer. His arrival anchored the company's electromechanical engineering discipline — the technical backbone that lets Gii design custom connectors and assemblies rather than simply build to print.

1999
2004

Deepening OEM Partnerships

As demand from medical device OEMs grew, Gii invested in the commercial relationships that would carry it from a regional New England shop toward a global manufacturing partner — building the long-term, consultative customer model the company is known for today.

2004
2007

A Global Supply Chain

With purpose-built procurement leadership in place, Gii extended its sourcing and logistics across borders — laying the groundwork for the global manufacturing network that lets the company match each program to the right facility and cost structure.

2007
Late 2000s

Going Truly Global

Asia operations gave Gii high-volume cable and connector manufacturing capacity alongside its US engineering base — the combination that turned “Global” in the company's name into an operational reality spanning multiple continents.

2011

A Deeper Purpose

In April 2011, Stephen's son Charlie passed away unexpectedly from SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy). The loss became a lasting source of purpose — sharpening Gii's focus on energy-based and diagnostic medical devices and on manufacturing work that ultimately serves patients. Read Charlie's story →

2011
2013

Scaling Quality & R&D

As programs grew more complex, Gii formalized engineering processes and project structures across its US and China sites — co-developing new technologies and reinforcing the ISO 13485 quality systems that medical OEMs require.

2013
2017

Quality Leadership Matures

With dedicated quality leadership, Gii reinforced the zero-defect culture that defines its reputation — balancing strict FDA and ISO 13485 requirements against the real-world needs of demanding medical device programs.

2017
2019

Nearshore in Costa Rica

With its nearshore facility in Heredia, Gii added US time-zone-aligned manufacturing with fast lead times and reduced tariff exposure — giving OEMs a flexible alternative to Asia-only production without sacrificing cost or quality.

2019
2023

A Renewed Identity

A new brand and website reframed Gii's story around the outcomes OEMs care about most — supply chain consolidation, strategic cost-down, and faster time to revenue — all powered by deep cable and connector specialization.

2023
Today

Three Continents, One Specialty

FDA-registered and ISO 13485 certified, Gii now spans corporate engineering in Massachusetts, nearshore manufacturing in Costa Rica, and high-volume production in Asia — and recently added a Chief Medical Officer to deepen its clinical perspective. Three decades on, cables and connectors remain the cornerstone of everything Gii builds.

Core Values

What Guides Our Work

These principles define how we operate, lead, and serve our partners every day.

Specialization

Cables and connectors for medical devices are our deepest expertise and our greatest strength. That focused depth is what enables us to find cost and quality opportunities that broader manufacturers miss.

Quality

Zero failure is our standard. Every connector, assembly, and device is engineered and manufactured to exceed regulatory and customer expectations.

Integrity

We operate with transparency, honesty, and accountability in every customer relationship and business decision we make.

Cost Intelligence

We don't just manufacture — we engineer cost out of your cable and connector program. Custom connector design to replace expensive off-the-shelf branded connectors, DFM reviews, and material optimization are standard practice at Gii, not add-ons.
